Program Description
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program (PG program) is a 3 year program leading to the Post-Graduate Degree (MDS) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Admission Requirements:
Applicant must clear NEET held by the Govt of India. The applicants must be Graduates in Dentistry from a college recognized by Dental Council of India.

Program Highlights
First-year
The resident works closely with the senior residents to provide both inpatient and outpatient care. The resident has primary responsibility for examining, diagnosing, and treating patients in the outpatient clinic. The resident also assumes responsibility for inpatients under the supervision of the chief resident, assists the chief resident and staff with operating room cases, and also serves as primary surgeon of many operative cases commensurate to their level of experience.
Second-year
The residents work in General Surgery, General Medicine, ENT, Orthopaedics, Anesthesiology, Regional Cancer Centre, spending a total of 6 months. The residents typically perform procedures at par with first year residents in the concerned speciality. During their term in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, the residents are involved in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical procedures in various capacities like observing, assisting and independently performing chief surgeon.
Third year
Third year residents function as senior resident acting as OMFS Chief Resident assuming the responsibility for the overall function of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department. Chief residents are involved in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical procedures as an assistant or as chief operating surgeon.
Clinical experience
The three year course exposes the residents to the complete range of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in a staged and graded manner beginning with involvement as observer and progressing to Assisting and Independently performing various surgeries.

Didactic components
Core lectures
Includes material on such disciplines as microbiology, pharmacology, radiology, as well as orthognathic surgery, trauma, Dentoalveolar surgery, infections, tumor surgery, reconstruction, preprosthetic surgery, implant surgery, and temporomandibular joint disorders.
Head and Neck Pathology conferences
Head and Neck Pathology conferences are held jointly with the Department of Oral Medicine, Radiology and Department of Oral Pathology for a comprehensive exposure to Head & Neck pathologies.
Seminars
Regular seminars are held covering the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery spread over three years beginning with the basics and advancing to complex surgical procedures including adjunctive procedures.
Journal Review
Regular review of classic articles, current articles of importance and advancements in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is done at a meeting of the residents and faculty
Joint Orthodontic/Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery clinic
Meeting is held between Department of Orthodontics & Craniofacial Orthopaedics and the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for discussion of Orthognathic surgery cases.
Case Presentations
Regular presentation of interesting cases is done by the residents in a meeting of the residents and the faculty.
Teaching Rounds
Residents and faculty hold teaching rounds during which in-patients and upcoming surgical patients are reviewed.
Research and Publications
During the 3 year residency, each resident is expected to complete at least one detailed Research, one Library dissertation and one publication. The residents are encouraged to take up more than one research. In addition to the above activities, the residents are required to attend Speciality related conferences and workshops along with presentation of Papers and posters.
